INSPIRATION
While public aesthetics are rapidly evolving, certain classic styles remain cherished by niche groups. The mechanical aesthetic of the 80s and 90s is one such style, often seen in music products.
What if we pressed rewind on audiophile design and collaborated with Technics, a brand renowned for its minimalism and cutting-edge technology, to bring this retro-modern vision to life?

BACKGROUND RESEARCH
With the growing trend of pet ownership worldwide, there's significant opportunity in the pet product market. This prompts the question: could Design Within Reach explore potential avenues in pet-related designs?




DESIGN LANGUAGE
Through research on retro mechanical products, I established a hierarchy of key elements to retain in the design and developed a cohesive color system for the CMF, ensuring the final look aligns with the desired aesthetic.



FORM DEVELOPMENT
Talking about retro, what if we combined the record player with a wall unit? This idea led me to design a form with the record tray positioned on the left, the speaker on the right, and additional panels on top, blending functionality with a sleek, retro-inspired aesthetic.




FINAL DESIGN
RETROGEAR is a wall-mounted audiophile system designed to play vinyl records, offering a sleek, retro appearance paired with premium sound quality.
The metal and retro-inspired CMF transport users back to the 1990s, while Technics' advanced technology ensures an unparalleled listening experience with modern audio performance.
